Unlocking Minds: Uganda Mathematical Society International Mathematical Olympiad Camp 2023

The just concluded Uganda Mathematical Society (UMS) International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) Camp 2023, hosted by Light Academy Secondary School, marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of excellence in mathematics education in Uganda. The 10-day event, which concluded on December 17th, saw young minds compete, collaborate, and celebrate their passion for mathematics.

Closing Ceremony and Prize Giving

The culmination of the camp was marked by a grand prize-giving ceremony. Participants were awarded participation certificates, acknowledging their dedication and enthusiasm for mathematics. The top 15 participants, showcasing exceptional mathematical prowess, earned the opportunity to represent Uganda at various international competitions in 2024.

International Representation

The best and brightest minds from the UMS IMO Camp 2023 will proudly represent Uganda at the following prestigious international events in 2024:

  1. East Africa Mathematics Olympiad in Nairobi 2024
  2. African Mathematics Olympiad in Tunisia 2024
  3. International Mathematics Olympiad in London, UK 2024
  4. Chinese Mathematics Olympiad in Beijing 2024

This global exposure not only recognizes the talents of these young mathematicians but also positions Uganda on the international stage in the realm of mathematical excellence.

Guest of Honor’s Commendation

Mr. Musoke Paul, the Guest of Honor and Technical Supervisor of SESEMAT/Teacher Education Training and Development (TETD) at the Ministry of Education and Sports, applauded the Uganda Mathematical Society for its outstanding efforts in fostering mathematical skills in the country. Mr. Musoke emphasized the significance of mathematics, declaring it as not only the Queen of Sciences but also the King of all subjects, bridging the realms of both sciences and arts.
