UMS National Mathematics Contest Paper 1 2024: Reflecting Success, Embracing Growth

The Uganda Mathematical Society (UMS) recently concluded its highly anticipated National Mathematics Contest (NMC) with resounding success. Spearheaded by UMS Contest Coordinator, Hassan W. Kayondo, the event witnessed an impressive turnout, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for mathematics education in Uganda.

Kayondo expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved, including school coordinators, governing bodies, parents, and individuals who contributed to the contest’s success. Despite challenges, such as last-minute school registrations, UMS remained steadfast in its commitment to excellence.

The NMC Paper 1, held on April 6, 2024, drew over 14,000 candidates from 350 schools nationwide, setting a new benchmark for participation. This achievement reflects Uganda’s evolving educational landscape and highlights the concerted efforts of educators, parents, and students in promoting mathematical literacy.

The significance of the contest extends beyond its immediate success. Paper 2, scheduled for June 29, 2024, presents an opportunity for successful candidates to represent Uganda on the international stage, further amplifying the impact of the event.

UMS Testing Centers, including prestigious institutions like Makerere University and Uganda Christian University, played a pivotal role in facilitating the smooth administration of Paper 1. This collaborative effort stresses UMS’s commitment to fostering mathematical excellence across diverse educational settings.
